
Ohio State Drops Game Two at Arizona State

Game Recap
- Tyler Pettorini had the first hit of the gme for the Buckeyes, doubling to right field with two outs on the board in the top of the first. A single from Marc Stephens drove in Pettorini to give the Buckeyes the early 1-0 lead.
- The Sun Devils answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead.
- In the top of the second, Lee Ellis led off with a long ball, sending his first homer as a Buckeye 408 feet out of the park to tie the score, 2-2. Ryan Miller was hit by a pitch to reach base and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He stole third and then scored on an Arizona State error to put Ohio State back in the lead, 3-2.
- Nick Giamarusti doubled to left center to lead off the fifth inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Reggie Bussey. A sacrifice fly from Trey Lipsey sent Giamarusti home and put the Buckeyes ahead by two, 4-2.
- In the bottom of the sixth, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from the Sun Devils tied the score, 4-4.
- With two outs in the board in the top of the seveth, Pettorini hit an infield single. Stephens followed that with another infield single and Mason Eckelman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pettorini scored on a wild pitch to put Ohio State back ahead, 5-4.
- An RBI groundout for Arizona State in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the score once again, 5-5. The inning ended, however, with the Buckeye battery of Luke Carrell and Eckelman catching a Sun Devil trying to steal home.
- With one out in the top of the eighth, Giamarusti was walked, and then stole second and third. Giamarusti scored on a wild pitch to put Ohio State ahead by one, 6-5.
- The Sun Devils, however, earned the 7-6 walk-off win over the Buckeyes after a two-RBI double with the bases loaded.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes with three hits and Stephens had two.
- Ellis, Pettorini and Lipsey each had one RBI.
- Giamarusti led the Buckeyes in swiped bags with three.
- Chase Herrell fanned four and allowed four runs on six hits in a 6.0-inning no-decision.
- Nik Copenhaver (0-1) took the loss. He gave up two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes close out their series against the Sun Devils on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1:00 p.m. MST/3:00 p.m. EST.
