Eckelman Selected by Seattle Mariners in Eighth Round of MLB Draft

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State baseball junior catcher Mason Eckelman was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft with the 250th overall pick.
Eckelman is the fourth Buckeye in program history to be drafted by the Mariners, and the first to be picked by Seattle since Bob Worley in the 20th round of the 1992 MLB Draft. Former Buckeye Dominic Canzone (Arizona Diamondbacks, eighth round, 2019) is currently on the Mariners' Major League roster.
Eckelman had a phenomenal junior campaign for the Buckeyes in 2026. He batted a career-best .304 and set career-highs in runs scored (42), hits (59), doubles (15), triples (four), home runs (eight) and RBIs (47). He was a Third Team All-Big Ten selection.
On his career with the Buckeyes, Eckelman batted .280 with 77 runs scored, 115 hits, 13 home runs and 81 RBIs.
