What is a baseball student manager?
Ohio State baseball student managers are one of the most important parts of our program and serve the program in countless ways that allow our players and coaches to focus on the things they need to do to win games. Our managers are selfless givers of their effort, time, knowledge, skills of all type and, most of all, their positive attitude to help the program thrive.
What roles are available and what are their responsibilities?
Bullpen Catcher
- Catch bullpens daily at practice and games
- Must have previous experience and be able to handle 90+ MPH throws
Data Analytics
- Support coaching staff in operating multiple baseball technology programs/systems
Field Manager
- Daily practice setup
- Support coaching staff during practice
- Coordinate various gameday details
How do I become a student manager?
- Must be enrolled full-time at Ohio State
- Understand that by accepting this role, you forfeit your NCAA eligibility
- You do not need to have any previous experience in a similar role, but basic baseball knowledge is preferred
- Have a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude
What should I expect if I am offered a position?
As an Ohio State baseball student manager, you can expect to be treated with the utmost respect and as a full-fledged member of the program. You can also expect to spend long hours with the program when available and when your academic schedule allows. There are also in-season travel opportunities possibly presented to those who show high levels of commitment, as well as an outstanding understanding of team-oriented skills both on and off the field. This is not a full-time job, but it is a serious commitment and should only be accepted by dedicated individuals who are prepared to put in the time, effort and energy to be present and serve during practices, games and other necessary functions.
Will I be compensated?
Ohio State baseball student managers will not be compensated in monetary wages, but can expect to receive some team gear, team meals and snacks, and other benefits that come along with being present with the program on a day-to-day basis. Excelling as a manager can also lead to earning countless other opportunities in life and credible references for future jobs and experiences, as well as the opportunity to be a part of our program and work the ins and outs of a Division I baseball program.
