Buckeyes Defeated by Sun Devils in High-Scoring Series Finale

Game Recap
- Trey Lipsey hit an infield single to lead off the game, then swiped second and advanced to third on a Sun Devil error. Matthew Graveline stepped up to the dish and tripled to right center field, sending Lipsey home to put the Buckeyes on the board. A double down the right field line from Tyler Pettorini scored Graveline and Ohio State the early 2-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the first, the Sun Devils scored on a Buckeye error, followed by a solo home run to tie the score, 2-2. Another solo home run put Arizona State in the lead, 3-2.
- An RBI single from the Sun Devils in the bottom of the second inning gave them a two-run lead over the Buckeyes, 4-2.
- With one out in the top of the fourth, Lee Ellis reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Ryan Miller then singled and Nick Giamarusti was also hit to load the bases. Reggie Bussey reached on a fielder's choice, with Ellis being thrown out at home, but the bases remained loaded. The Buckeyes, however, were not able to capitalize and all three runners were stranded.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Sun Devils scored three runs to take a 7-2 lead over the Buckeyes. Ariona State tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth get ahead by eight, 10-2.
- In the top of the sixth with two outs on the board, Giamarusti singled through the left side and then stole second. A single to center field from Reggie Bussey drove in Giamarusti to cut the Sun Devil lead to seven, 10-3.
- Pettorini walked to lead off the seventh. Marc Stephens reached on a fielder's choice and Mason Eckelman also walked to put two runners on. A single into shallow left center from Ellis sent Stephens home and cut the Buckeye deficit to six, 10-4. A single to center field from Ryan Miller scored Eckelman and left Ohio State trailing by five, 10-5. Ellis scored on a groundout from Giamarusti and Miller scored on a wild pitch to put the Buckeyes within three runs of the lead, 10-7.
- The Sun Devils got three across in the bottom of the seventh to take a six-run lead, 13-7.
- Lipsey drew a walk to lead off the eighth inning. Graveline stepped up to the dish next and blasted one over the center field wall to send two runs home. Pettorini was next up and he also went yard, homering to right field and putting the Buckeyes within three runs of Arizona State, 13-10.
- The Sun Devils scored four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to get back ahead by seven, 17-10.
- There was nothing doing for the Buckeyes in the ninth inning as they fell to Arizona State, 17-10, in a nearly four-and-a-half hour game.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes with three hits and he batted in two runs.
- Graveline added two hits and a team-high three RBIs.
- Miller and Bussey each had two hits.
- Jake Michalak (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He allowed four runs on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
- Michalak, Sahil Patel, Drew Erdmann and Douglas Bauer each had one strikeout.
- The Buckeyes take on the Jax College Baseball Classic next weekend. Ohio State will face NC State on Friday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m., Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12:00 p.m. and Alabama at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
