
Baseball Takes On Grand Canyon Tuesday Night

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Ohio State baseball team (2-1) is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 20 when they play against the Grand Canyon Antelopes (3-0) at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark at 8:00 p.m. ET.

- The Buckeyes went 2-1 at the MLB Desert Invitational to open the 2024 season. Ohio State fell to Boston College, 9-2, in the opening game of the tournament before bouncing back to defeat BYU, 7-2, and USC, 5-2.
- Landon Beidelschies (0-1) fanned a career-high six batters in the Buckeyes' Opening Day matchup with the Boston College Eagles.
- Colin Purcell (1-0) earned the win over BYU, striking out four and allowing one earned run on five hits in 5.0 innings pitched in his Ohio State debut.
- Hunter Shaw, also making his Buckeye debut, earned the save. He fanned six and gave up just one run on one hit in 4.0 innings tossed.
- In his first at-bat as a Buckeye, Nick Giamarusti hit a home run against BYU.

- Through three games, Tyler Pettorini leads the Buckeyes at the plate, batting .417. He leads the team in hits with five.
- Pettorini and Henry Kaczmar lead the Buckeyes in RBIs with four apiece. Kaczmar is batting .308 with four hits, including one double and one triple.
- Joseph Mershon leads the team in stolen bases, going a perfect 3-for-3 in steals to start the season.
- Trey Lipsey leads the Buckeyes in runs scored with three. Lipsey and Mitchell Okuley have each added three hits.
- Gavin Bruni (1-0) and Colin Purcell (1-0) each have an ERA of 1.80 after their first starts of the season.
- Bruni, Landon Beidelschies and Hunter Shaw have each amassed six strikeouts so far.
- Shaw and Justin Eckhardt each earned one save during opening weekend.
- The Buckeye pitchers have not allowed any walks in the last two games.
- Grand Canyon also competed in the MLB Desert Invitational, going 3-0 with victories over Georgetown, USC and BYU.
- Infielder Beau Ankeney leads the Antelopes at the plate, batting .545 with six hits, including two home runs. He leads the team in runs scored and RBIs with four each.
- Utility player Tyler Wilson has added four hits for the Lopes and is batting .308.
- Infielders Justin Crenshaw and Eli Paton have each batted in three runs.
- Connor Mattison leads the GCU pitchers with seven strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. He has also earned one save.
- Grant Richardson and Isaac Lyon (1-0) have each fanned six.
- The Buckeyes wrap up their Arizona trip with a four-game series against Arizona State Feb. 22-25.
