COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team is set to travel to Ohio for a road midweek game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens before hosting Dayton at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes (16-16) will look to bounce back after falling in a three-game home series vs. Northwestern last weekend in Columbus.

LEADING OFF
- Ohio State is 16-16 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play. The team opened Big Ten play March 29-30 at Rutgers winning two of three games in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes also have wins against Seton Hall, FGCU, Oral Roberts, Bethune-Cookman, Lipscomb, Northern Kentucky, Hawai’i and Toledo. Ohio State played its first 16 games on the road.
- The Buckeyes were swept at home last weekend vs. Northwestern to drop to ninth in the Big Ten standings.
- The 2019 Buckeyes return 15 letterwinners from the 2019 NCAA Tournament team that finished with a 36-24 overall record. Key players returning include 2018 second team All-Big ten honoree Dominic Canzone, third team selection Conner Pohl and 2018 All-Big Ten Freshman standout Dillon Dingler.
- The team welcomed 15 newcomers to the spring roster. Eleven Buckeyes have made their debuts, including nine freshmen.
- Ohio State is led by ninth-year head coach Greg Beals. He is 277-219-1 overall at Ohio State and holds a 520-421-1 career coaching record. Beals has guided the team to NCAA Regional appearances in two of the last three years.
- Ohio State is hitting .270 as a team with 51 doubles, seven triples and 27 homers.
- The Buckeyes are second in the Big Ten in hits (291) and homers (27), third in batting average (.270) and RBI (159) and runs scored (171).
- Brady Cherry leads the Buckeyes with a .346 average (.44-for-127), 10 doubles, eight homers and 29 RBI.
- Dominic Canzone has a .328 average (42-for-128) with a team-high 33 runs scored. He’s also homered seven times in 2019.
- The OSU pitching staff has combined for a 4.66 ERA with 262 strikeouts in 288.0 innings pitched. The Buckeye starting pitchers have combined to register a quality start in 24 of 32 games (75 percent).
- Canzone, Pohl and Dingler were each named to the Big Ten Preseason Watch List. Ohio State was picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten.
- Ohio State has had three freshman earn Big Ten weekly honors (Garrett Burhenn, Zach Dezenzo and Seth Lonsway).
OHIO STATE AS OF LATE
The Buckeyes will look to snap a five-game losing streak Tuesday night in Athens. Dominic Canzone is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with four runs scored, three doubles and one RBI in his last 10. Brady Cherry is hitting .300 in his last 10 contests.
CHERRY, CANZONE LEADING BIG TEN
Brady Cherry is listed in the Top 10 in nine different offensive statistical categories in the Big Ten, while Dominic Canzone ranks in the top 10 in eight different categories. Cherry is the conference leader in hits (44) and total bases (78), third in runs scored (27), fourth in slugging (.614), RBI (29), doubles (10), homers (8), fifth in average (.346) and tenth in on-base percentage (.419). Canzone is the league leader in runs scored (33), second in hits (42), third in total bases (71), fifth in slugging (.555), sixth in homers (7), seventh in on-base percentage (.425), ninth in RBI (23) and tenth in average (.328).
CANZONE STREAKING
Dominic Canzone is currently on a career-high 28-game reached base streak. He is the first Buckeye to have at least 28-game reached base streak since Troy Montgomery reached base safely in 37 games from March 28, 2015-Feb. 26, 2016).
Canzone is hitting .333 (38-for-114) with a .422 on-base percentage during the stretch. He is also slugging .535 with six doubles, one triple, five homers and 19 RBI in the last 25 games.
A LOOK AT THE BOBCATS
Ohio is 8-21 overall and 3-6 in MAC action this spring. The Bobcats are hitting .230 as a team with 40 doubles, three triples and 13 homers. Rudy Rott leads the squad with a .336 average (38-for-113) with 10 doubles, five homers and 26 RBI. The Bobcat pitching staff has combined for a 5.50 ERA with 218 strikeouts in 250.1 innings of work. Joe Rock will be making his seventh start of the year Tuesday night.
Ohio State is 85-40 all-time vs. the Bobcats. The team has won 11 straight games vs. Ohio dating back to 1990. The last two victories have been shutouts, including a 4-0 win over the Bobcats at Bill Davis Stadium in 2018. The game Tuesday marks the first road midweek game for the Scarlet and Gray this spring.
SCOUTING DAYTON
The Flyers are 17-13-1 overall and 7-2 in A-10 play. The team has a midweek road contest at Toledo Tuesday night before traveling to Columbus. The Flyers are hitting .252 as a team with 39 doubles, eight triples and 21 homers. The Flyers have stolen 70-of-86 bases in 31 games. Benjamin Blackwell leads the Flyers with a .317 average and is 11-for-16 in steals. Dayton has four different players with at least 10 steals in 2019. The Flyer pitching staff has a 4.60 ERA with 240 strikeouts in 272.0 innings of work. Dylan Keller will be making his first collegiate start Wednesday night in Columbus. Ohio State is 17-4 all-time vs. Dayton. This will be the first meeting in five years between the Buckeyes and Flyers.
