MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Ohio State tallied two runs in the top of the third vs. right-handed starter and 2015 All-American Mike Shawaryn. After a lead-off walk to L Grant Davis and sacrifice bunt by Craig Nennig, Troy Montgomery launched a double off the wall in left to plate the first run of the day. The Terps cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth when Anthony Papio doubled off the wall in the right for their first hit of the day. But Jalen Washington tagged out a runner at the dish for the second out before a pop-up retired the side and kept the Buckeyes in front, 2-1.
The Scarlet and Gray notched two runs in the seventh to push their lead back to two with a 4-2 advantage. Washington doubled off Shawaryn to begin the momentum. After he stole his team-best 11th swipe of the year, Nennig placed a safety squeeze down and Washington beat the glove-toss by Shawaryn at the plate. A fourth run crossed on a fielder’s choice by Jacob Bosiokovic.
