COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opens the spring portion of the schedule this week as the Buckeyes will compete in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande. The 54-hole event starts on Monday, and the final round will be played on Wednesday.
- This will be Ohio State’s 15th appearance at the event. Its best finish is a tie for fifth in both 2017 and 2023. Maxwell Moldovan finished runner-up in 2023 as that was one of four individual Top 10 finishes.
- Ohio State will travel to Rio Grande with the same lineup as last year, which consists of Jack Vojtko, Tyler Sabo, Vaughn Harber, Joe Wilson IV and Timotej Formanek.
- In the fall, the Buckeyes finished as runners-up at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, sixth at The Bearcat Invitational, third at the Windon Memorial, and ninth at the Morain Intercollegiate.
- Tyler Sabo rounded out the fall with a runner-up finish at the Moraine Intercollegiate, posting the best finish of his collegiate career. Sabo carded three under-par rounds for the first time in one event, finishing at 7-under—his lowest 54-hole total—after back-to-back 68s and a strong closing round.
- Vaugh Harber played in all four of Ohio State’s fall tournaments and was part of the team’s lineup throughout the fall. He finished tied for 14th at –1 at the Bearcat Invitational, posting one of the lowest individual scores for the Buckeyes and carding a season-best bogey-free 4-under 67, which was tied for the low round of his career in that event. Harber’s fall scoring average was approximately 70.9 through nine rounds.
- Joe Wilson IV played in all of Ohio State’s fall tournaments as well, including the Folds of Honor Collegiate, Bearcat Invitational, Windon Memorial Classic, and Moraine Intercollegiate. He finished 11th at the Windon Memorial Classic, firing a bogey-free 5-under 67 in the final round. His fall scoring average was 72.44 through nine rounds.
- Timotej Formanek averaged 72.78 through the four fall events. He finished 37th at the Folds of Honor and 14th at the Windon Memorial Classic with a 5-under par performance.
- This will be Vojtko’s third event of the season.
