
Mackelis and Sabo Lead Buckeyes on Day 1 of Inverness Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's golf team opened play at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Sunday and is tied for second place after the first round at 7-over par 287. The Buckeyes are tied with Toledo and Tennessee and trail first-round leader Iowa by eight shots.
Ohio State was paced by Giedrius Mackelis and Tyler Sabo, who each carded rounds of 1-under 70 and are tied for third place individually. Mackelis recorded four birdies, including three on the front nine, while Sabo posted five birdies in his round.
After finishing fourth at last week's Folds of Honor Collegiate, junior Vaughn Harber carded an opening-round 76. Harber rebounded from a double bogey on the fourth hole by playing the remaining 14 holes in 2-over par. Harber entered the tournament leading the Buckeyes with a 68.67 scoring average through the season's first event.
Senior Jack Vojtko carded a 4-over 75 and is tied for 37th. Vojtko finished his opening round with birdies on two of his final eight holes. Fifth-year Joe Wilson IV rounded out the Buckeye lineup with an 80.
The Buckeyes return to the course Monday morning for the second round beginning at 11:20 a.m.
