COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State closed the Inverness Intercollegiate with a strong final-round push on Tuesday, carding a 3-under 287 to finish in fifth place in one of the nation's strongest early-season fields at the Inverness Club.
The Buckeyes were led by senior Jack Vojtko and fifth-year Tyler Sabo, who each finished tied for sixth individually at 2-over par for the tournament. Both players closed with even-par rounds of 71 on Tuesday.
Vojtko made three birdies on the day and played the front nine in 2-under 34 before finishing with a 37 on the back side. Sabo recovered from an early double bogey with three birdies over his final 11 holes to secure the fifth Top-10 finish of his career.
Fifth-year Joe Wilson IV fired Ohio State's low round of the day, a 1-under 70. Wilson played his opening nine in even par before birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 helped him post the Buckeyes' lone under-par round. He finished tied for 59th.
Sophomore Giedrius Mackelis finished tied for 52nd after carding a final-round 78, while junior Vaughn Harber finished tied for 74th after a final-round 75.
As a team, the Buckeyes led the field in pars made for the week and made the second-fewest bogeys.
The Buckeyes return to action Oct. 5-6 as they host the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
