Buckeyes Shine at Jesse Owens Classic

Men’s and women’s programs pick up 11 wins on a breezy, somewhat nippy yet bright sunny day.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team wrapped up the annual Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. After a three-win Day 1, the Buckeye men's and women's programs picked up 11 more wins Saturday.
Victorious Saturday were Lacey Stringer (shot put), Carlos Aviles (discus), Amaya Ugarte (high jump), Aniya Mosley (800 meters), Fatouma Conde (400 meters), Hayden Tobias (shot put), Faith Bender (discus), Reign Winston (high jump), Nya Bussey (100 meters) and the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays.
The meet served as the final home meet for 26 senior members of the teams. The 13 women seniors are Annie Allen, Nya Bussey, Marissa Henley, Abbey Kuhn, AnneMarie Moses, Bryannia Murphy, Gia Napoleon, Chanler Robinson, Daniella Santos, Marcia Sey, Atinuke Shittu, Lacey Stringer and Amaya Ugarte.
The 13 seniors on the men's team: Carlos Aviles, Giovanni Copploe, John Cuozzo, Alex Dediu, Daniel Drellishak, Clarence Foote-Talley, Evan Johnson, Shaun Miller Jr., Armani Modeste, Adam Riedinger, Ivan Slyepkan, Hayden Tobias and Leo Uusimaki.
TRACK RESULTS
- 100m hurdles:Â Sr. Chanler Robinson went for a season's best time of 13.63 to finish second; Katie Ruffner was third with a season-best tying time of 13.93
- 100m:Â Sr. Nya Bussey was first in the prelims and first in the finals, winning with a season-best time of 11.27
- 4x100m relay: Both the men's and women's relays were victorious … the men's quartet (Nick Biega, Braxton Brann, DJ Filmore and Marcus Brown) winning in 40.30; and the women (Nya Bussey, Sydney Bryant, Leah Bertrand and Avery Clark) winning in 44.33
- ·400m: So. Fatouma Conde won the race with a time of 54.86; in the men's race, freshmen Mason Louis and Antonio Hanson placed second and third, respectively, in 47.06 and 47.12
- 800m:Â So. Aniya Mosley was first in a time of 2:06.43 and Jr. Carina Napoleon was fourth in 2:11.56;Â Fr. Jaxson Eckert was fourth on the men's side in 1:53.21 with Sr. Ivan Slyepkan fifth in 1:53.28
- 3000m steeplechase:Â Sr. Akemi Von Scherr was second in a season-best time of 10:53.24
- 4x400m relay:Â The Ohio State men's team of So. Noah Carmichael, Fr. Mason Lewis, Jr. Antonio Hanson and So. Shohaan Singh took second in 3:16.05Â
FIELD RESULTS
- Shot put: A Buckeye sweep: Buckeyes took three of the top five places with Jr. Lacy Stringer winning the event with a throw of 16.12m / 52-10¾; Jr. Faith Bender (second) and Fr. Kaylin Howey (fifth) each had season best throws of 15.27m / 50-01¼ and 14.26m / 46-09½, respectively; the men also dominated: Seniors Hayden Tobias (19.87m / 65-02¼), Carlos Aviles (18.19m / 59-08¼) and Adam Riedinger (17.70m / 58-01) placed first, third and sixth with all three hitting season-best throws    Â
- Discus:Â A Buckeye sweep: Sr. Carlos Aviles launched the discus 57.63m / 189-01, his second-longest throw ever, to win the event with Jr. Tanner Watson second at 55.37m / 181-08; Jr. Faith Bender won the women's discus with a throw of 5s5s.23m / 181-02
- Triple jump: For the men, Fr. Christian Seibert took sixth with a season-best leap of 13.96m / 45-09¾; Sr. Atinuke Shittu took second for the women with a jump of 11.78m / 38-07¾Â
- Pole vault: Sr. Abigail Kuhn took second with a leap of 4.08m / 13-04½ and So. Sophie Fong was fifth (3.98m / 13-00¼); for the men, Fr. Daniel Edwards and Jr. Daniel Drellishak each cleared 4.73m / 15-06¼ with Edwards' one fewer miss placing him 12th overall
- High jump: A Buckeye sweep: Sr. Amaya Ugarte won with a leap of 1.78m / 5-10; for the men, So. Reign Winston won with a leap of 2.08m / 6-09¾
