
Ohio State Pair Honored as Regional Coaches of the Year

The USTFCCCA announced its 2026 outdoor regional awards on Thursday with Ohio State coaches Joel Brown and Diego Flaquer on the list.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) announced the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field regional awards on Thursday. Ohio State associate head coach Joel Brown was named USTFCCCA Women's Assistant Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year and assistant coach Diego Flaquer was named USTFCCCA Men's Assistant Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.

Brown coached Janela Spencer to a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles at the NCAA DI Outdoor Championships in 12.79 after clocking a PR 12.77 in the semifinals – a time that placed her third on the program's list of all-time leaders in the event. At the Big Ten Championships, Brown's athletes scored in seven events, led by the runner-up finishes of the 4×100 relay and Spencer in the 100m hurdles.

Flaquer coached Buckeye sprinters and hurdlers to a pair of third-place finishes at the NCAA DI Outdoor Championships with program record-setting performances – Braxton Brann in the 110m hurdles (13.07) and the 4×100 relay that was anchored by Brann (38.44). His athletes also earned Big Ten titles in the 110 hurdles and 4×400 relay.
