Ohio State will look to rebound on Friday at home against No. 17 Penn State
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Ohio State field hockey team (9-1, 1-1 Big Ten) fell to rival Michigan (8-1, 2-0 Big Ten) in Ann Arbor on Sunday by a 1-0 final. The loss is Ohio State's first of the season after winning nine straight to start the year. Senior goalkeeper Abby Danson notched two saves on the day.
How it Happened
Both teams held a steady defensive pressure throughout the scoreless first quarter, with the only shot in the first 15 coming from Michigan. That held true through the second quarter, where the Buckeyes and Wolverines combined for only six shots and zero goals scored.
Michigan broke the scoreless tie at the 37:12-minute mark when freshman forward Cami Wiseman found the back of the cage after a penalty shot was deflected and brought back into the circle. The Buckeyes notched five shots in the quarter while Michigan recorded six.
Although Ohio State pulled goaltender Abby Danson to try to gain an offensive advantage in the fourth, the score would remain at 1-0 to give the Wolverines the win.
