Webster’s Two Goals Lift Ohio State over the Nittany Lions
10/11/2024 5:28:00 PM | General, Field Hockey
The Buckeyes have shut out five teams this season, totaling 19 goals in the shutout wins
Graduate forward Makenna Webster notched two goals in the win while forwards Hallie Brost and Olivia Wallace added one a piece. Goalkeeper Abby Danson added two saves on the day.
How it Happened
The first quarter was a defensive battle, with the Nittany Lions notching the only two shots of the first 15 minutes on back-to-back penalty corners. That continued into the scoreless second quarter, where the Buckeyes logged a pair of shots and a penalty corner.
The Buckeyes took charge early in the third quarter, scoring after a deflection in front of the cage. A little over two minutes later, Ohio State drove down the field again and found the back of the goal to take a 2-0 lead. After an Ohio State green card, the Buckeyes scored again with only 10 players on the field at the 37:19-minute mark.
The fourth quarter went scoreless until the 58th minute when the Buckeyes scored on a penalty stroke to take the match 4-0.
How The Goals Were Scored
- Webster scored the first goal of the match only a minute into the third quarter after a deflection off Penn State's goalie.
- Two minutes later, Brost lead a Buckeye charge down the field and scored on a direct shot at the 33:54-minute mark. Brost has scored in three games this season.
- Wallace scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute, maneuvering around a Penn State defender in front of the cage. She was assisted by junior forward Loryn Jordon.
- With less than two minutes left in the match, Webster notched another goal on a penalty stroke. That's Webster's first penalty stroke goal and 12th goal of the season.

- The Buckeyes have out-scored their opponents this season 12-3 in third quarters alone.
- Webster has scored on 63 percent of her shots on goal this season (12 goals on 19 shots on goal).
