COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Yianni Pavlopoulos was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. A native of Homer Glen, Ill., Pavlopoulos claims his first career weekly honor and becomes the first Ohio State pitcher to be named a B1G weekly winner since former Buckeye Tanner Tully (April 7, 2015).
Recently named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List, Pavlopoulos helped the Buckeyes to a 6-1 win over No. 5 Oregon State Feb. 24 in Surprise, Ariz. He threw 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs, while striking out four batters to claim his first career victory as a Buckeye starter. He shares the honor with junior Oliver Jaskie of Michigan.
The baseball Buckeyes are currently in the middle of a five-week road trip to begin the 2017 campaign. Ohio State will travel to face Campbell in a three-game series March 3-5 in Buies Creek, N.C.
