COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team is set to begin a six-game homestand with a two-game, midweek series against Morehead State Tuesday-Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes (19-11-1, 2-4 B1G) are looking to bounce back after dropping a road series at Maryland last weekend, while the Eagles travel to Columbus with a 19-13 overall record.

OHIO STATE AS OF LATE
The Buckeyes dropped three games at Maryland over the weekend. The OSU pitching staff limited the Terp bats to a .124 average, while fanning 24 UMD hitters. Tanner Tully tossed eight innings in game one and allowed three runs, two earned with eight strikeouts, while John Havird tossed eight hitless frames in game two with a season-high seven strikeouts. Ryan Feltner got the nod in game three and limited Maryland to one run on two hits with five punch outs in 4.1 innings. Craig Nennig batted .333 (3-for-9) with a double, RBI and walk.

A LOOK AT MOREHEAD STATE
The Eagles travel to Columbus with a 19-13 overall record and 6-6 mark in OVC play. Morehead State is hitting .311 as a team, collecting 73 doubles, eight triples, 35 home runs and a .471 slugging percentage. Eight MSU hitters are above the .300 mark with five batting a .335 average or higher. Alex Stephens guides the group with a .353 average on 28 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 34 RBI and .574 slugging percentage. On the hill, the MSU staff has combined for a 4.47 ERA with 293 strikeouts to 141 walks. Left-hander Curtis Wilson is 0-3 with a 5.61 ERA, striking out 16 batters to two free passes. Right-hander Luke Humprhreys is 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA, fanning 31 batters to 27 walks. The Eagles are 6-11 on the road this season under fourth-year coach Mike McGuire.
SERIES HISTORY
Ohio State is 4-0 all-time vs. the Eagles. Last season, the Scarlet and Gray swept Morehead State in a two-game series in Columbus April 21-22. The Buckeyes won game one, 6-3, before shutting out the Eagles, 7-0, in game two at Nick Swisher Field.
Last year in the series, Craig Nennig batted .500 (3-for-6) with two RBI and two walks, while Tre’ Gantt also notched a .500 average (3-for-6) with a double and two RBI. Ronnie Dawson followed with a .375 average (3-for-8) with a double and RBI, while Troy Montgomery went 4-for-4 in stolen bases with three runs scored. The OSU pitching staff allowed just three runs in 18 innings pitched in the two-game series.
ICE COLD
Senior left-hander John Havird was locked in game two of a doubleheader Maryland last Friday. The native of Mesa, Ariz., didn’t allow a hit in eight innings of work on a season-high seven strikeouts. He was relieved in the top of the ninth after hitting a batter with his pitch count around 100 in the contest and received a no decision.
MIDWEEK STREAK SNAPPED AT KENT STATE
The 8-3 loss at Kent State last Tuesday snapped a 16-game midweek win streak since the end of the 2014 campaign. Ohio State went 12-0 last season in midweek games and hold a 3-1 mark in 2016.
THE LONG BALL
Just looking at the numbers, the Buckeyes’ home run total is up dramatically in 2016. The team is just one shy of their season total from a year ago (35). The 34 home runs ranks 15th in the nation. The Ohio State outfield trio of Dawson, Montgomery and Bosiokovic has combined for 20 homers in 2016.
