COLUMBUS, Ohio –After squeaking by Scarlet in game two of this series, Gray came out and thumped Scarlet, 11-2, to take a 2-1 lead in the 2016 Scarlet & Gray World Series Tuesday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Game four is set for 6 p.m. ET Friday at Bill Davis Stadium and admission is free.
IN THE BOX SCORE
In all, six different Gray hitters recorded at least one hit vs. the Scarlet hurlers to combine for 11 hits tonight. Tyler Cowles was 2-for-6 with a run scored, double, stolen base and three RBI, while Shea Murray was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, walk and hit by pitch. Conner Pohl went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks and Noah McGowan was 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored. For the Scarlet side, Zach Ratcliff led the way with a 2-for-3 performance on a double and two RBI. The Scarlet bats were limited to three hits tonight against the Gray pitching staff. Gray starting pitcher Jake Vance allowed two runs, two hits with one walk in 3.1 innings of work. The Gray bullpen combined to strike out six Scarlet batters and allowed no walks in 3.2 innings of relief action.
FOUR-RUN SECOND FOR GRAY
Gray did all of its damage in innings two and three, scoring four times in the second and seven times in the third. The first run of the game came off the bat of Shea Murray, whose RBI single drove in Noah McGowan to take a 1-0 lead. Tyler Cowles then ripped a bases-loaded double deep down the left field line that scored all three Buckeyes, giving his team a 4-0 lead.
GRAY PILES IT ON
Seven runs came across to score in the top of the third. Matt Carpenter drew a bases loaded walk to start the inning, while Murray drove in two more runs later to highlight the most successful half inning for either team in the series. Â

Scarlet’s two runs came courtesy of Zach Ratcliff and his two-run double that scored teammates Dominic Canzone and Noah West.
