COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tre’ Gantt , a member on the Ohio State baseball team, was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Gantt, a native of Fishers, Ind., claims his first career weekly award and shares the honor with Michigan’s Ryan Nutof.
Gantt batted .500 (6-for-12) with two RBI and a run scored in a 3-1 week for the Buckeyes, including wins over nationally-ranked Louisville and Nebraska. In his first collegiate start as the Buckeye’s designated hitter, Gantt recorded his first multi-hit game of the week, going 2-for-3 at the plate against the fourth-ranked Cardinals on Tuesday. He posted the go-ahead, two-out RBI single in the top of the tenth in a 2-1 ten-inning win over the 24th-ranked Cornhuskers on Saturday. In the series finale, Gantt went 2-for-3 with two walks in a 5-2 victory on Sunday. He is currently on a four-game hit streak.
The Buckeyes are set to host a two-game midweek series vs. Morehead State at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. First pitches are 6:35 p.m. ET Tuesday and Wednesday.
