Josh Dezse Named to Olerud Watch List – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. Included on the list: Ohio State freshman first baseman/pitcher Josh Dezse, from Powell, Ohio and Olentangy Liberty High School.
The Olerud Award, which recognizes a player who makes an impact both on the mound and at the plate, will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.
Dezse, who will lead the 20-19 and 9-6 Buckeyes into a key Big Ten series this week at Illinois, leads the team in hitting with a .354 average and he is also tops with 52 hits (tied with Ryan Cypret), three home runs and 34 runs batted in. His .439 average in Big Ten games only ranks third in the league.
And on the mound, Dezse has appeared in 18 games as Ohio State’s closer. He is 4-1 with two saves and a 4.43 earned run average.
This season Dezse has already been named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week four times and Big Ten Player of the Week twice.
