COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State right-hander Greg Greve has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance at Minnesota over the weekend, the conference office announced Monday. It is the ninth weekly award for a Buckeye this season and the first for Greve.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native came up huge for the Buckeyes in the rubber game Saturday against Minnesota, tossing a career-high eight scoreless innings, scattering six hits while striking out five to move to 3-2 on the season and pitch the Buckeyes into the Big Ten tournament. He did not walk a batter. His last two outings combined: wins in crucial games against Iowa and Minnesota, 13 scoreless innings, nine hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Buckeyes take on Minnesota in the first game of the Big Ten tournament at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday at Huntington Park.
