Dezse Picks Up Big Ten Player, Freshman of the Week Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After playing a huge role in Ohio State’s sweep of Michigan over the weekend, Josh Dezse was named Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second Player of the Week award and fourth Freshman of the Week award for Dezse.
The Powell, Ohio, native batted .600 with six RBI and he also struck out all six batters he faced while finishing two of the wins. Dezse hit a game-changing, three-run home run in the first inning of the 7-2 Game 1 win and had four RBI on the day. He struck out the side in the top of the ninth to close out the game. In Game 2, he hit a two-run double in the ninth inning to tie the score at 6-apiece and send the game to extra innings, part of a three-hit, two-run game. He struck out all three batters he faced in the top of the 11th and picked up the victory when the Buckeyes scored in the bottom of the 11th.
For the series, Dezse slugged at a 1.000 clip and had a .667 on-base pct. He had a 0.00 ERA in his 2.0 innings of work, finishing both games.
The Buckeyes (19-18, 9-6 Big Ten) host North Florida Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 6:35 p.m. before travelling to Illinois for a three-game set starting Friday night.
