COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State juniors Alex Wimmers and Dan Burkhart met with a contingent of media members Thursday afternoon following their selections in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.
Wimmers, selected with the 21st pick in the first round by the Minnesota Twins, and Burkhart, drafted in the 10th round by the San Francisco Giants discussed their busy and somewhat stressful week after making it nine-consecutive years in which Ohio State has had at least two of its players selected in the MLB Draft. It is the second time in the last four years the Buckeyes have had at least two players taken in the top 10 rounds after Cory Luebke (supplemental first round), Matt Angle (7th round) and Eric Fryer (9th round) did so in 2007.
The Buckeyes third pick of the draft, senior outfielder Zach Hurley, was taken in the 29th round by Oakland but was unable to be at Bill Davis Stadium Thursday because of his obligations with the Athletics.
