Baseball: Rucinski is VBL Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State sophomore-to-be pitcher Drew Rucinski, from Broken Arrow, Okla., has been named one of the Valley Baseball League’s Pitchers of the Week.
Playing for the Luray (Va.) Wranglers, Rucinski did not allow a run in 7.0 innings pitched last week. He struck out eight and allowed just three singles in helping Luray, 20-6 this summer, maintain first place in the Valley North Division.
Rucinski lowered his summer ERA to 1.64 with his efforts last week. He has pitched 22.0 innings and has 24 strikeouts against just three walks. He has appeared in four games with three starts and has an 0-1 record.
Wrangler Round-Up…
- Sophomore Andrew Armstrong improved to 3-0 with 5.0 innings of work in Luray’s 11-5 win over Staunton Saturday. Armstrong has a 3.80 ERA through four starts and 21.1 innings pitched.
- Senior Justin Miller rejoined the team that he has played with two summers previously. He started at first base against Staunton and when 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI double. Miller had played in eight games for Falmouth in the Cape Cod League before opting to rejoin Luray.
- Sophomore Alex Wimmers finally gave up his first earned runs of the season. He pitched 5.1 innings against Haymarket in a start last week and allowed just three runs to score, but Luray dropped a 9-1 decision.

- Dan DeLucia picked up his first professional victory with the Oneonta Tigers of the New York-Penn League Sunday. He pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball in the Tigers’ 6-1 win over State College. DeLucia lowered his ERA to 2.45 with his effort.
- J.B. Shuck had two hits in Tri-City’s 9-2 New York-Penn League win over Jamestown Friday before a record Tri-City crowd of 6,630 fans at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Shuck is hitting .333 in 10 games (13-for-39) and has already scored 10 runs.
- Junior outfielder Zach Hurley continues to lead the 16-4 Cincinnati Steam of the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League in hitting with a .443 average (27-for-61) and with 17 runs scored. The Steam has won seven consecutive games.
- Junior Eric Best has a 1.86 ERA and a team-best four saves in seven appearances for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaskan Baseball League (ABL). Best has pitched 9.1 innings and has 12 strikeouts and just four walks. The Glacier Pilots are 18-6 and leading the ABL.
- Junior Josh Edgin lowered his ERA to 2.63 fourth-best on the team for the 18-14 Forest City (N.C.) Owls of the Coastal Plains League. Edgin has logged 27.1 innings and has 21 strikeouts as opposed to six walks.
