Buckeye Cory Luebke Named to ABCA All-America Third Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State junior left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke was named to the 2007 ABCA/Rawlings All-America third team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced. He is the first Buckeye pitcher to be honored by the ABCA since Matt Beaumont was a first-team pick in 1994. Luebke also was named to the All-Ping third team by pingbaseball.com.
Maria Stein, Ohio, native Luebke, the 2007 Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the Big Ten Tournament, was picked by the San Diego Padres 63rd overall in the Major League Baseball draft earlier this month. The Marion Local High School product also was named first-team All-Mideast Region and was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.
In all games this year, Luebke led the Big Ten in ERA (2.07 ERA), strikeouts (98) and innings pitched (117.2), while holding his opponents to a stingy .213 batting average and walking just 28 batters. He finished the year with a 9-1 record in 16 appearances, all starts. Luebke tossed three complete games, including all 10 innings in Ohio State’s 6-5 win over Le Moyne in the NCAA tournament. The Big Ten’s 2007 strikeout king, Luebke fanned 50 batters through 56.1 innings of work in the conference season while walking just 24 batters.
