COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will face Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m. ET Friday in the NCAA College Station, Texas Regional this weekend the NCAA announced Monday.
The Buckeyes are the No. 3 seed in the regional and Lafayette the No. 2 seed. Also in the four-team regional is host and No. 1 seed Texas A&M and No. 4 seed Le Moyne, who will play at 8 p.m. ET Friday. The double-elimination regional runs from Friday-Monday. The complete schedule is listed below.
Ohio State (37-22) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the Big Ten Tournament, while Louisiana-Lafayette (43-15), the Sun Belt Conference regular-season champs, earned an at-large bid. The Aggies (44-16) also earned an automatic bid by winning the Big 12 Tournament championship as did Le Moyne (34-17) by winning the Metro Atlantic Tournament championship.
If the Buckeyes win the regional they would advance to a best-of-three super regional and play the winner of the Rice Regional that includes Rice, Prairie View, Baylor and Texas Christian.
It is the 18th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Buckeyes and the first since 2005. Minnesota and Michigan were also selected to participate as at-large teams, giving the Big Ten three teams in the tournament, the most the conference has sent since 2000, when Illinois, Minnesota and Penn State received tournament berths.
The opening weekend of the NCAA Championship features 16 four-team regionals playing double-elimination format. Regional play runs from June 1-4, with the 16 winners advancing to the next round of competition. The eight two-team super regional sites will be determined on Monday, June 4, with play scheduled for June 8-11 in a best-of-three series. The Men’s College World Series will take place June 15-25, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. All-session tickets are available on-line at www.aggieathletics.com or by calling 1-888-99-AGGIE. Single-game tickets will be available beginning Friday at 8 a.m. at the Kyle Field ticket windows. All pre-ordered tickets are available to pick up starting Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the 12th Man Foundation Ticket Center in the Zone at Kyle Field. The ticket pricing is listed below.
