CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State baseball game scheduled for Friday at Illinois has been postponed because of near-freezing temperatures in Champaign, Ill.
Friday’s forecast game-time temperature was 34 degrees with 20 mph winds that would have created a 23-degree wind chill. Coaches from Illinois and Ohio State decided Friday afternoon that playing the game would not be in the best interest of the student-athletes from either school.
The 25th-ranked Buckeyes and Illini will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday consisting of a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning contest, beginning at 2:05 p.m. ET. Sunday’s doubleheader will feature a seven-inning game then a nine-inning contest, also starting at 2:05 p.m.
Three of the four games at Illinois (Games 1, 3 & 4) will be broadcast on radio on AM 920 WMNI. All four games will have audio available on ohiostatebuckeyes.com and be featured on Gametracker at ohiostatebuckeyes.com. Marty Bannister and former OSU baseball All-American Brian Mannino will call the action.
Ohio State got off to a good start in Big Ten action last weekend, taking three of four games from Iowa at Bill Davis Stadium. The Hawkeyes won game three of the series, snapping the Buckeyes’ 15-game winning streak. The Buckeyes have won 16 of their last 17 games and are 17-4 overall, 3-1 in the Big Ten.
The Buckeyes return home next Wednesday to take on Miami (Ohio) at 6:35 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium.
