Buckeyes down Dartmouth, 6-3, win twice on Sunday – Ohio State Buckeyes

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Ohio State baseball team wrapped up a split-doubleheader sweep with a 6-3 win over Dartmouth Sunday at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla. The Buckeyes beat Jacksonville State, 8-3, earlier in the day. The win against Dartmouth was the eighth straight for OSU as they improved to 9-3 on the year.
Sophomore J.B. Shuck (Galion, Ohio/Galion) pitched seven innings in picking up his first win of the year. The lefty allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven.
The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on two hits and an error, but Dartmouth responded with two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Adam Schneider (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) led off the Buckeye second with a single and moved to third on Michael Arp’s (So., Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) double. Schneider scored on a Dartmouth error.
Ohio State tied the game at 2-all with a run in the bottom of the sixth and took the lead with two more in the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh, Schneider and Justin Miller (So., Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) each singled home runs to give the Buckeyes a 4-2 lead.
The Big Green chopped the OSU lead to 4-3 with a run in the top of the eighth as sophomore right-hander Jake Hale (Albany, Ohio/Alexander) relieved Shuck. But the Buckeyes would regroup in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Tony Kennedy (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) led off the inning with a single and freshman Cory Kovanda (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) followed with an RBI triple to make it 5-3. Then two batters later, Kovanda’s former high school teammate, freshman Ryan Dew (Croton, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) singled home Kovanda for a 6-3 advantage. Hale closed out the ninth for his fourth save of the year. Freshman Robert Young started the game and took the loss for Dartmouth, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 7 innings. Ohio State had 13 hits in the game, Dartmouth seven. Schneider was 3-for-5 in the game and Arp 2-for-4.
The Buckeyes play the fourth game of their spring break trip on Monday (March 19) against Yale at 2 p.m. ET at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. (original game time was 3 p.m.).
