Cory Luebke Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as chosen by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced Wednesday.
Luebke (Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local) finished 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 appearances this season. He struck out 54 and walked 17 in 71.0 innings. He made 12 starts and pitched three complete games and held opposing batters to a .264 batting average.
First three appearances came in relief before moving into the starting rotation against Rider in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 12. Luebke got his first win of the season in a nine-inning complete game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee when he struck out a season best nine batters and held the Panthers to one run on four hits in a 4-1 victory. He went a full eight innings in his next start to pick up a second straight victory against Dartmouth. The rookie went the distance in a loss at Illinois, but rebounded to beat Purdue. After a loss to Michigan State, he bounced back to beat Eastern Michigan and Indiana. He went the full seven innings against the Hoosiers for his third complete game of the season and his fourth win. He did not factor into a decision his five final appearances of the season.
Ohio State finished 40-20 overall after making the school’s 17th appearance in the NCAA tournament after winning the third Big Ten tournament championship in the last four years and the seventh of the program’s history.
