Luebke, Fausnaugh Combine for Three-Hit OSU Win over Dartmouth, 4-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

BRADENTON, Fla. – Cory Luebke allowed only three hits and one unearned run in eight innings and Trey Fausnaugh came on to pick up his second save of the season to help lead Ohio State past Dartmouth 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at IMG Academy.
The only run allowed by Luebke, a freshman from Maria Stein, Ohio (Marion Local), was unearned back in the bottom of the first inning, when he walked a batter with two outs, gave up a hit before two passed balls allowed the runner to score. He struck out six and walked two in improving to 2-0 on the year. He gave way to Fausnaugh, a sophomore from Circleville, Ohio (Westfall), in the ninth, who struck out his first two batters before getting a ground out to end the game for his second save of the season. Stephen Perry got the loss for the Big Green to fall to 1-1 on the year.
Ohio State loaded the bases in the top of the first, but only scored one run. Wes Schritzinger (So., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) led off the inning with a walk and went to second on a single to center by Jason Zoeller (So., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy). Ronnie Bourquin (So., Canton, Ohio/Canton South) drew a walk to load the bases for Cody Caughenbaugh (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley), who flew out in foul ground to the right fielder.
Dartmouth capitalized on a two-out walk, a base hit and a pair of passed balls by Buckeye catcher Kelly Houser (Jr., New Holland, Ohio/Adena) to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, but Houser got the run back for the Buckeyes in the top of the second. Matt Angle (Fr., Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling) reached on a interference call on Dartmough catcher Brian Zurhellen, stole second and went to third on a ground out. Houser blooped his second hit of the season into shallow centerfield to put the Buckeyes back on top 2-1. Paul Farinacci (Sr., Westlake Village, Calif./Agoura) drove in two more runs in the seventh inning to stretch the Buckeye lead to 4-1. Caughenbaugh delivered a one-out hit through the left side and then after a fly out, Angle reached on an infield single that moved Caughenbaugh to second. Farinacci drove in both runs with a double in the left-field corner to build a three-run lead.
Houser led the Buckeyes with a 3-for-4, one-RBI effort though several players had multiple hits in the game. Angle, Farinacci and Rabin each had two hits as Ohio State out-hit the Big Green 12-3. Dartmouth had three errors to one by the Buckeyes. Ohio State left 12 runners on base, including four runners at third base.
Ohio State will play Dartmouth again Friday before closing its spring break trip Saturday against Cornell at 11:30 a.m.
