COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bob Todd weekly radio call-in show begins Tuesday and will continue every Tuesday night for the remainder of the season. Skip Mosic will host the show on Sports Radio 1460 The Fan (WBNS-AM). The program has received mention in Baseball America for its promotion of college baseball. Todd is in his 17th season as the head coach at Ohio State and is the winningest coach in the 120 years of baseball at the school with a record of 657-328-2 (.667). Todd came to Ohio State prior to the 1988 season after four years at Kent State and boasts a 781-410-2 (.655) career record in his 21st season.
Every player that Todd has recruited to play at Ohio State has left school with a Big Ten Championship ring. His teams have sat atop the Big Ten standings at the end of the regular season a total of seven times and he has guided teams to six conference tournament championships. Ohio State has participated in the NCAA tournament 10 times in the last 13 seasons, winning two regionals and hosting two super regionals at Bill Davis Stadium, the Buckeyes’ eighth-year home venue.
A four-time national coach of the year nominee (1991, 1994, 1999 and 2003), Todd is the only coach in Big Ten history to earn the conference’s coach of the year honor four times (1989, 1994, 1999 and 2001). Fourteen of Todd’s players at Ohio State have earned All-America recognition, eight have won Academic All-America honors, 45 have been chosen First Team All-Big Ten and perhaps most impressively, 59 have signed professional baseball contracts.
Respected by many in college baseball Todd, who has twice served as an assistant coach for USA Baseball, has served on numerous committees, most notably the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee, a position he has held since 1998. Todd is currently serving on an NCAA baseball issues committee, which is examining the feasibility of pushing back the baseball season and creating a national starting date.
Todd’s 2004 Buckeyes open their home season Wednesday with a 6:35 p.m. game against Eastern Michigan before welcoming Illinois to Bill Davis Stadium to open Big Ten play Friday through Sunday. The teams will play a single game Friday at 6:35 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 4:05 p.m. before closing the series with a single game Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Ohio State is 7-9 after playing its first 16 games on the road.
