Scott Lewis to Get MRI Monday Evening – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State left-handed pitcher Scott Lewis (So., Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) will have an MRI performed Monday evening to exam his left elbow, which was injured in the Buckeyes’ 9-2 loss Friday night at Minnesota. Results from the exam will be announced early Tuesday afternoon before the team returns to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Big Ten Tournament, which begins Wednesday. The first game for the second-seeded Buckeyes will be Thursday at 4:35 p.m. (EDT) against the higher-seeded winner of the Michigan/Indiana and Penn State/Northwestern games Wednesday.
The loss for Lewis snapped a 15-game win streak, including nine straight wins this season. Lewis leads the conference with a 1.61 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings. His nine wins are tied for the most in the Big Ten, while he also leads the league by holding opposing batters to a .160 average. He is one of 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Smith Award, given annually to the top baseball player in NCAA Division I.
Lewis’ status for the Big Ten Tournament and the potential postseason play for the Buckeyes (37-18 overall and 20-12 in the Big Ten) will be determined Tuesday. Coach Bob Todd will be available for comments at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium prior to the team’s departure for Minnesota.
