Swisher Named to 2001 USA Baseball Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – USA Baseball announced today that Ohio State’s Nick Swisher (So., Parkersburg, W.Va.) has made the 2001 USA Baseball National Team, following a four-day tryout in Tucson, Ariz. Swisher is one of 22 collegiate players selected.
“This entire experience has been incredible,” Swisher said. “To have the opportunity to play with a team this talented and represent the United States and Ohio State in Japan is an unbelievable honor.”
Team USA will play 29 more games on the Red, White and Blue Summer Tour, following its first game last night, which it won 5-1 over the Chicago Cubs rookie level affiliate at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Ariz. Team USA will travel overseas on Wednesday to the 30th-annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series, which this year will be played in Japan.
Swisher and Team USA will play three games in the state of Ohio. On July 12-13, Team USA will play Northern Ohio in Strongsville, Ohio. On July 14, Team USA will travel to Athens, Ohio for a game against the Great Lakes All-Stars.
Florida’s Pat McMahon is serving as the head coach for Team USA. He is assisted by North Florida’s Dusty Rhodes, Northwestern’s Paul Stevens and Ohio State’s Bob Todd.
