Five Buckeyes Named to the All-Big Ten Baseball Team and Swisher Named the Freshman of the Year – Ohio State Buckeyes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – %^$The Big Ten Conference announced today that five student-athletes on the Ohio State baseball team have been named to the 2000 all-conference team. Second baseman Chad Ehrnsberger (Jr., Kalida, Ohio) and rightfielder Jason Turner (Sr., Versailles, Ohio) garnered first-team honors. Pitcher E.J. Laratta (Jr., Englewood, Colo.) was named to the second-team and relief pitcher Cory Cox (Jr., Chillicothe, Ohio) and first baseman Nick Swisher (Fr., Parkersburg, W.Va.) earned third-team honors. Swisher was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.%^$
%^$”I’m happy that all of them were able to be recognized for their efforts,” Ohio State head coach Bob Todd said. “Seeing Chad (Ehrnsberger) repeat as a first-team selection is a great accomplishment and Jason (Turner) established himself as one of the best players in our league this season.%^$
%^$”It also great that the coaches around the league recognized Nick’s (Swisher) talents. He’s a good young player that certainly has a lot of potential. His best days are still to come.”%^$
%^$Ehrnsberger is one-of-two repeat selections on the first-team (Northwestern’s Jeremy Kurella). Swisher’s selection as the Freshman of the Year marks the second-consecutive year a Buckeye has earned the honor. Laratta took home the award last year.%^$
