COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$A masterful pitching performance from Kyle Brown (So., Washington Court House, Ohio) and an offensive outburst led the Scarlet team to an 11-0 win over the Gray. With the win, the Scarlet team is the winner of the 2000 Scarlet and Gray World Series. Brown tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, gave up four hits, recorded four strikeouts and threw 103 pitches. Steve Caravati (Fr., Dover, Ohio) paced the offense by going 4-for-4 with three runs batted in.%^$
%^$”We knew going into this series that is was going to be tough,” Brown said. “It was a good, hard-fought series. Both teams gave it their all – we just happened to come out ahead three of the four times.”%^$
%^$The Scarlet took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Jason Siler (Fr., Englewood, Colo.) led off with a double down the left field line. Walks by Joe Wilkins (Jr., Grove City, Ohio) and Mike Rabin (West Chester, Ohio) loaded the bases with one out. Caravati immediately doubled to score Siler and Wilkins to give the Scarlet a two-run lead. Rabin later scored on a groundout by Brett Garrard (Brownsburg, Ind.).%^$
%^$The Scarlet added to its lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rabin led off with a walk and immediately scored on a double by Caravati. Garrard than reached base on an error by Scarlet third baseman John Mayor (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.) that also allowed Caravati to score. Nick Swisher (So., Parkersburgh, W.Va.) followed with a walk and Doug Dendinger (Jr., Greenwich, Ohio) singled to load the bases. Josh Newman (Fr., Wheelersburg, Ohio) immediately drove in two runs with a single to increase the Scarlet lead, 7-0. They added the last run of the inning when Dendinger scored on a ground out by Wilkins.%^$
%^$The Scarlet added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.%^$
%^$Gray starting pitcher Matt Kamalsky (Jr., Somerset, Pa.) was solid but took the loss. He went six innings, gave up five hits, three runs, walked four, recorded three strikeouts and threw 111 pitches.
