COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team worked out for about three hours at Auburn University at Montgomery after arriving for the Blue-Gray Classic. Practice was spirited and because of extensive winter conditioning, the team is happy and healthy.
The Buckeyes left the fiberglass mounds and turf fields behind and held practice on a dirt infield for the first time this year. It didnt take long for the infielders to grow accustomed to the pace of the ball skimming real grass and the pitchers were finally able to open up on legitimate mounds. “I forgot what one of these looked like,” said senior pitcher Andy Lee. “This just feels great.”
Ohio State opens the tournament against Kentucky, Friday at 2 p.m. at Paterson Field.
