How It Happened
- The Buckeyes and Vikings traded goals for much of the first half. Ohio State jumped out to a 1-0 lead of Brad Sharp's tally just 30 seconds into the first quarter, but the Buckeyes didn't find the back of the net again for nearly eight minutes.
- Clevland State led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter but a 3-0 run by Ohio State thanks to score by Haas, Jack Deliberti and Jack Oldman gave the Buckeyes the lead for good at 5-4 with 8:36 remaining before halftime. The Buckeyes led 6-5 at the break.
- Ohio State's 6-1 scoring run in the third quarter gave the Buckeyes all the breathing room they'd need. Marinier scored three times in the rally and Ohio State also converted on back-to-back extra man chances midway through the quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, Ohio State scored five consecutive goals – all coming from different players – to increase their lead to 17-6 with under seven minutes to play.
- While the Ohio State offense generated 56 shots, it was also efficient on its extra man chances, converting two of the three that it had on the day.
