No. 10 Buckeyes Battle to 11-6 Win Over Bellarmine

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its first game at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium of the 2026 season, the Ohio State men's lacrosse team earned an 11-6 win over Bellarmine Tuesday afternoon. The Buckeyes improve to 3-0 on the year with their third win at home in the first 10 days of the season.

The Short Story
A pair of goals by Bellarmine to start the game was answered by five consecutive Buckeye goals to put Ohio State in control of the lead in the second quarter. The Knights brought the game within one at the half, but Ohio State added two three-goal scoring runs in the second half to come away with the 11-6 win.

Garrett Haas and Khalif Hocker led the team with four points each in the victory. Hocker recorded his first hat trick of his career with a three-goal performance against the Knights. Haas now has four points in the last three games for the Buckeyes.

Matt Mayfield went 11-for-16 for the Buckeyes on the faceoff and picked up a team and career-high eight ground balls on the day.

In net, Caleb Fyock made seven saves in the win. Jack Allen also recorded a save.

How it Happened

The game was tied 2-2 after the first quarter. Bellarmine scored the first two goals of the game before a behind-the-back goal from Jackson Birtwistle at 4:36 and a goal from Alex Marinier assisted by Haas at 3:48 evened the game at the quarter break.
The Buckeyes went on to score the first three goals of the second quarter as Liam White scored unassisted at 13:07 and Hocker tallied his first two goals of the game at 11:24 and 9:56 with assists from Jake Struck and Blake Eiland to extend the Ohio State lead to three.
The Knights scored the final two goals of the quarter to put Ohio State ahead, 6-5, at the end of the first half.
Ohio State held Bellarmine without a goal in the third quarter and allowed only two shots in the frame. The team's lead was strengthened by a man-up goal from Marinier at 11:12 and goals from Logan Soelberg (9:58) and Birtwistle (8:28) that were both assisted by Haas.
Bellarmine tallied the first and final goal of the fourth quarter, but another three-goal scoring run with tallies from Haas, Hocker and Winter Rivera gave the Buckeyes the final 11-6 result.

Game Notes

Haas, Marinier, Birtwistle and White have all scored in every game this season for the Buckeyes. Marinier is up to double-digit goals with 10 this year while Haas leads the team with 12 points on the season.
Ohio State held its opponent without a goal in the third quarter for the second time in 2026. The team has only allowed one goal in the third quarter this season.
