Late Rally Falls Short as Buckeyes Defeated by Baylor, 8-6

Game Recap
- Trey Lipsey led off with a single in the top of the first inning, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes. In the bottom of the inning, starter Chase Herrell fanned two as Baylor went down in order.
- Pettorini singled up the middle to lead off the fourth inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Matthew Graveline groundout. Pettorini was stranded on base, however.
- In the bottom of the fourth, a two-run home run from the Bears gave them the lead, 2-0.
- Reggie Bussey led off with a 362-foot double in the fifth inning. A sac bunt from Giamarusti advanced Bussey to third base. Maddix Simpson reached base on a Baylor error and Bussey scored to cut the Baylor lead in half, 2-1.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, another two-run home run for the Bears put them ahead by three, 4-1.
- Pettorini reached base on a Baylor fielding error to open the sixth inning. He advanced to second on a groundout from Mason Eckelman and to third on a wild pitch. Marc Stephens singled up the middle to drive in Pettorini and cut the Baylor lead back to two, 4-2.
- Lee Ellis drew a walk to lead off the eighth inning and then swiped second. Pettorini stepped up to the dish next and he sent one 416 feet over the right field wall to drive in two runs and tie the score, 4-4.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Baylor reclaimed the lead, 8-4, after a two-RBI double and two RBI singles.
- Bussey walked to lead off the ninth inning for the Buckeyes. Giamarusti was next up and he went yard, rocketing the ball 430 feet into the Ohio State bullpen in left center field to send two runs across and put the Buckeyes within two runs of thr Baylor lead, 8-6. With one out, Lipsey reached base after being hit by a pitch, but the next two batters were retired and the Buckeyes fell to Baylor, 8-6.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Giamarusti and Pettorini each had two RBIs.
- Chase Herrell struck out four and gave up four runs on four hits in a 5.0-inning no-decision.
- Hunter Shaw (1-2) took the loss. He allowed two runs on one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes close out play at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on Sunday, March 2, facing No. 9 Oregon State at 11:00 a.m. CT/12:00 p.m. ET.
