Buckeyes Win 10 Events at Hoosier Horsepower Classic

Ohio State completed the second meet of the indoor season in Indianapolis on Saturday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team competed in the Hoosier Horsepower Classic, hosted at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind. The Buckeyes earned 28 top three finishes throughout various events with 10 being in first place.
Leah Bertrand led the way with three wins, finishing first in the women's 60m first round, 60m finals and 200m. Both the men and women had the winning squad in the 4x400 relay. The men's team, made up of Edidiong Udo, Nick Robinson, Nick Biega and Nazzio John, finished with a time of 3:09.61. The women's A relay, filled by Fatouma Conde, Aniyah Brown, Sydney Bryant and Olivia Powell, finished with a time of 3:46.01. Brian Kellon won the men's triple jump with a best mark of 14.54m/47-08.50. Kellon has now won an individual event in back-to-back weeks, winning the long jump (7.29m/23-11.00) last weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial.
FIELD RESULTS
• Shot put: In the women's shot put, Lacey Stringer placed second with a throw of 16.36m/53-08.25. Also finishing in the top 10 was Morgan Hallett, who came in ninth after throwing 13.28m/43-07.00. The men had two finish in the top 10. Hayden Tobias led the Buckeyes with throw of 18.49m/60-08.00, placing him second. Michael Lunsford came in eighth after throwing a 15.76m/51-08.50. Dylan Chittum placed 12th after tossing a 15.20m/49-10.50. Braden Wakey rounded out the participants for Ohio State with a 12.51m/41-00.00.
• Pole vault: Sophie Fong led the Buckeye women, placing second by clearing 4.06m/12-03.75. Morgan Fijalkowski tied for fourth with a height of 3.96m/12-11.75. Nicole Grimes (3.71m/12-02.00) and Veronica Waugaman (3.56m/11-08.00) placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Samantha Potts tied for 12th with a height of 3.41m/11-02.00. For the men, Daniel Edwards and Bailey Fletcher competed for Ohio State. Edwards finished second by clearing 5.16m/16-11.00 and Fletcher placed sixth (4.51m/14-03.50).
• High jump: Amaya Ugarte finished fourth on the women's side by clearing 1.77m/5-09.75. The men were led by Reign Winston, who placed second (1.98m/6-06.00). Devin Jordan placed fifth (1.98m/6-06.00). Wakey, another top 10 finish, came in ninth after having a 1.94m/6-04.25. Sopuluchi Anosike rounded out the Buckeye men after placing 11th by clearing 1.89m/6-02.25.
• Triple jump: The Buckeyes claimed the top two places in the men's triple jump from the efforts of Kellon and Ibrahim Khairat. Kellon (14.54m/47-08.50) placed first and Khairat (14.16m/46-05.50) followed him up in second. Christian Seibert rounded out the top five with a best mark of 13.76m/45-01.75. The women also claimed the top two spots with Sydnee Burr first (12.53m/41-01.50) and Morgan Bridges second (11.92m/39-01.25).
• Long jump: Kayla Watson placed fifth on the women's side with a distance of 5.76m/18-10.75. Zamesha Myle (5.48m/17-11.75) and Callia Harris (5.47m/17-11.50) finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Kiera White rounded out the Buckeye women with a distance of 5.18m/17-00.00. Wakey and Anosike participated in the men's long jump. Wakey (6.27m/20-07.00) placed eighth with Anosike (5.99m/19-08.00) right behind him at ninth.
• Weight throw: Sophie Bidwell and Hallett were amongst the top 10 in the women's weight throw. Bidwell (17.31m/56-09.50) finished eighth while Hallett (16.70m/54-09.50) placed 10th. Two men placed in the top 10 including Jack Knapke (sixth, 17.99m/59-00.25) and Tanner Watson (ninth, 17.00m/55-09.25). Lawson Maag (15.19m/49-10.00), Lunsford (14.79m/48-06.25) and Chittum (14.77m/48-05.50) also competed.
TRACK RESULTS
• 60m first round: The Buckeye women had the three fastest times – Bertrand (first, 7.44), Bobbi Olive (second, 7.55) and Conde (third, 7.56). To round out the top 10, Brown placed sixth (7.68) and Amoi Hagans placed 10th (7.74). Katie Ruffener also participated, running an 8.09 dash. Bertrand, Olive, Conde and Brown all finished first in their respective heats, qualifying for the final round. For the men, Robinson was the top Buckeye, running a 7.12.
• 60m finals: Bertrand, Olive and Conde rounded out the top three yet again in the women's 60m, this time however with Bertrand placing first (7.34), Conde finishing second (7.49) and Olive sliding into third with a 7.51.
• 60m hurdles first round: Powell and Ruffener each finished in the top five for the women's 60m hurdles, advancing to the finals round. Powell placed second with a time of 8.42 and Ruffener finished fourth after running an 8.71. Harris placed 15th with a time of 9.25. For the men, Malik Mixon finished fifth with a time of 8.35, qualifying for the finals. Anosike finished with a time of 8.87 and Wakey ran a 9.22.
• 60m hurdles finals: Powell won the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.36. Ruffener had a time of 8.87, placing her seventh. Mixon placed third with a time of 8.03 for the men.
• Mile: Carina Napoleon (4:57.13) and Zoee Lehman (4:59.51) finished first and second in the women's mile. Olivia Oiler finished in the top 10 after running 5:05.79, good for eighth. For the men, Connor Long was the top Buckeye, finishing fourth after running a 4:10.93. Other Buckeye men include Liam Shaughnessy (11th, 4:15.79) and Colby Adams (12th, 4:17.33).
• 200m: Three women finished in the top five for Ohio State. Bertrand (23.58) placed first, Conde (23.72) finished second and Olive (24.46) came in third. Michaela McCall finished eighth with a time of 24.79. Jalaia Creary finished in 12th with a time of 25.17. Hagans and Laila Hackett rounded out the Buckeyes having times of 25.66 and 25.72. Biega won the men's competition with a time of 21.28. John placed eighth with a 21.85. Robinson placed 10th after running a 22.05.
• 600m: Avery Clark finished second overall, first in her heat, in the women's 600m with a time of 1:33.53. Naomi Clarke also competed, finishing eighth with a time of 1:38.74. On the men's side, Shohaan Singh finished fourth with a time of 1:20.69.
• 800m: Amelia Figler ran the women's 800m, earning a time of 2:10.11. Napoleon placed fourth with a time of 2:12.78. Finishing sixth was Lilly Eckels (2:14.38). The final Buckeye woman to run was Oiler, who finished with a time of 2:21.07.
• 3000m: Two women placed in the top 10 for Ohio State. Akemi Von Scherr placed seventh with a time of 10:03.14 and Ana Karmol finished eighth with a time of 10:04.86. Mia Robillard came in 13th with a time of 10:12.19. Keegan Freyhof placed 10th in the men's competition with a time of 8:26.96.
• 4x400m relay: The men's team (Udo, Robinson, Biega and John) won the event with a time of 3:09.61. Ohio State had three teams participate in the women's 4x400. The A relay (Conde, Brown, Bryant and Powell) placed first with a time of 3:46.01. The C relay (Hagans, Figler, Hackett and Lehman) finished sixth with a time of 3:58.57. The B relay (Clark, McCall, Creary and Harris) followed up in seventh with a time of 4:02.47.

The Buckeyes will return to Indianapolis, Ind. next weekend to compete in the Crossroads of America Invite. The Indiana State Fairgrounds will host the event on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25. Further details will be announced in the upcoming week.
