No. 11 Ohio State Suffers 3-1 Setback to No. 6 BYU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (0-2) dropped the final match in a two-game series with No. 6 BYU (2-0), 3-1 Saturday at the Covelli Center (1,116).
The Buckeyes fell by scores of 27-29, 25-23, 15-25, 17-25
Shane Wetzel led Ohio State with 10 kills with Daniel Hurley and Thomas Leahey each adding nine.
Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez had 20 assists with Kohl Kutsch adding 14. Grant Strong was the team leader in digs with six.
How it Happened
Set 1 (27-29)
After the Cougars started with a 3-0 lead, the Buckeyes got on the board with a Daniel Hurley kill and ace. Ohio State tied it at 4-all after a pair of BYU errors. A kill by Daniel Henwood Rodriguez and combo block by Stanislaw Chacinski and Thomas Leahey put the Buckeyes in the lead 6-5. BYU scored the next three for an 8-6 advantage. The Buckeyes countered with a 3-0 run to lead 9-8. The set went back and forth until the Cougars gained an 18-16 lead. Ohio State then called its first timeout of the set. Kills out of the break by Hurley and Wetzel tied it at 18-all. Ohio State tied it at 21-all on a Chacinski kill. The Cougars made it 24-22 after a 3-1 run leading to Ohio State's final timeout of the set. After a BYU service error, the set went to 24-all on a Cougar attack error. A Leahey kill keep the set tied at 25-all before a Wetzel kill and Leahey ace put the Buckeyes up 27-26. The Cougars called timeout and took the set 29-27 on three-consecutive kills. Ohio State hit .323 with Hurley leading with five kills.
Set 2 (25-23)
The Buckeyes started out 3-0 with a BYU service error, a Wetzel ace and Henwood Rodriguez kill. A 4-0 BYU run made it 7-6 Cougars. Ohio State went up 9-7 on a pair of BYU attack errors. A Wetzel kill made it 13-12 Buckeyes before the Cougars tied it with a kill after a long rally. A Leahey kill and back-to-back Ohio State blocks put the Buckeyes up 17-15. The Cougars called timeout and the teams traded points to keep the Buckeyes up two at 18-16. Ohio State went up 21-17 on a Leahey kill, BYU error and Chacinski ace. BYU called its final timeout and cut into the lead scoring two of the next three points to make it 22-19 Buckeyes. A Wetzel kill made it 24-21 and after a BYU kill, Ohio State called timeout leading 24-22. The Buckeyes then won it 25-23 on a BYU service error. Wetzel took over the team lead with seven kills.
Set 3 (15-25)
A 4-1 BYU run put the Cougars up 6-3. The Buckeyes called a timeout after the Cougars took a 9-4 lead. After the break, the BYU lead grew to 13-5. Ohio State called its final timeout of the set with BYU leading 15-7. The Buckeyes were not able to get closer than six the rest of the way, dropping the set 25-15.
Set 4 (17-25)
The Cougars remained aggressive in opening the set with a 5-0 lead. The Buckeyes called their first timeout. Ohio State closed the gap to 8-5 after a pair of BYU errors. Ohio State called its final timeout of the set with BYU leading 15-9. The Cougars finished off the match, 3-1, with a 25-17 win.
