
Ohio State Falls to No. 4 Seed McKendree in Five Setter Saturday

The Buckeyes End Their Season With a 14-12 Record
COLUMBUS, Ohio— No. 5 Seed Ohio State (14-12) fell to No. 4 Seed McKendree (17-10) Saturday evening at the Melvin Price Convocation Center in five sets.
The Bearcats took the first and second sets with two scores of 25-18. The third set was taken by the Buckeyes, 25-21. Ohio State also took the fourth set with a score of 25-22. McKendree took the fifth set, 15-12.
Shane Wetzel led the Buckeyes with 19 kills and added nine digs. He hit .378 in the match. Daniel Hurley put up 11 kills, two digs and hit .321.
Aaron Grimm put up five blocks and six kills for the Buckeyes. Daniel Henwood Rodriguez added three blocks and 46 assists.
Drew Hudson led Ohio State in digs with 12. Both Henwood Rodriguez and Chacinski added seven digs apiece.
Set 1 (25-18, MCK)
Daniel Hurley opened the match for the Buckeyes with a kill, 1-all. The Bearcats took a small 6-4 lead. An out-of-system kill by Shane Wetzel kept Ohio State within two-points, 7-5. Aaron Grimm put down a kill from the middle to put the Buckeyes within one-point, 8-7. McKendree went on a small run for the 14-10 lead. A block by Wetzel and Eliel Salva-Torres kept Ohio State in it, 17-13. Salva-Torres put down a kill that kept the momentum moving for the Buckeyes, 17-14. Another kill by Hurley continued to close the scoring gap, 20-16. The Bearcats took the set, 25-18.

Set 2 (25-18, MCK)
Wetzel put Ohio State on the scoreboard with a kill, 2-1 McKendree. A successful challenge by the Buckeyes put them within one-point, 4-3. Another kill by Wetzel kept the score close, 5-4. Grimm put down a kill that started to close the scoring gap, 8-5. Hurley and Grimm had a massive block to put Ohio State within two-points, 8-6. A kill by Stanislaw Chacinski put the Buckeyes within one, 9-8. Salva-Torres and Daniel Henwood Rodriguez put up a huge block, 15-11 Bearcats. Another kill by Chacinski kept Ohio State in it, 18-13. Tyler Tharpe put down a kill of his own, 19-14. Another kill by Wetzel kept the momentum alive for the Buckeyes, 22-16. Hurley added a kill for Ohio State, 23-17. McKendree took the set, 25-18.

Set 3 (25-21, OSU)
Hurley put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard with a kill, 1-all. A kill by Salva-Torres kept the third set tied up at 2-all. The Bearcats took a small 7-5 lead. Chacinski put down a service ace that preserved the tie at 7-all. A kill by Wetzel gave Ohio State a two-point lead and forced a McKendree timeout, 10-8. Salva-Torres had another kill out of the middle that extended the lead, 12-9. A kill by Chacinski continued the scoring advantage, 15-10. Salva-Torres added a service ace that kept the momentum rolling for the Buckeyes, 17-13. Henwood Rodriguez put up a massive solo block for the five-point advantage, 18-13. Another kill by Wetzel extended to a six-point lead, 19-13. Grimm put up a solo block for the 21-15 lead. Chacinski added another kill, 22-17. A service ace by Wetzel won the third set for Ohio State, 25-21.

Set 4 (25-22, OSU)
A kill by Wetzel started the fourth set for the Buckeyes, 1-all. Hurley added a kill for the 3-2 lead. Skilled attack placement by Hurley tied the set at 5-all. A service ace by Hurley gave Ohio State a two-point advantage, 7-5. Grimm and Chacinski put up a huge block for the 9-6 lead. Another block, by Grimm and Henwood Rodriguez that time, extended the lead to 10-6. Chacinski put down another kill off McKendree's block for the five-point advantage, 11-6. Another kill by Hurley kept the Buckeyes in the lead, 17-13. Wetzel tooled off the Bearcats' block for the five-point advantage, 20-15. A massive backrow kill by Chacinski gave Ohio State the 22-18 lead. Wetzel and Salva-Torres extended the Buckeyes' lead, 23-20. Another kill by Salva-Torres gave Ohio State its first set point, 24-21. The Buckeyes took the fourth set, 25-22.

Set 5 (15-12, MCK)
Wetzel put Ohio State on the scoreboard first, 1-0. A kill off the block by Chacinski tied the set at 4-all. Wetzel put down another massive kill from the right-side that preserved the tie, 5-all. Another kill by Salva-Torres kept the tie at 8-all. Chacinski put down a kill to put the Buckeyes within one-point of the lead, 11-10 Bearcats. A kill by Grimm from the middle preserved the one-point deficit, 12-11. McKendree took the set, 15-12.
