
Salva-Torres, Wetzel Named AVCA All-Americans

Both earn spots on honorable mention team
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Junior Eliel Salva-Torres and senior Shane Wetzel were named 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-Americans, the organization announced Wednesday.Â
It's the fourth time Wetzel has been named to the AVCA Honorable Mention squad over his career in Columbus. He is just the second Buckeye all-time to be named an AVCA All-American four times. Ohio State Hall of Famer Nic Szerszen is the other. He earned honorable mention honors in 2015 and was named an AVCA First Team All-American from 2016-18.
It's the first honor for Salva-Torres, who just finished his first year at Ohio State following a transfer from Lincoln Memorial.Â
In 24 matches in 2026, Wetzel led the Buckeyes with 296 kills, 33 aces and 350 total points. He also had 41 blocks and was second in digs with 144.Â
For his career, Wetzel finished with 1,314 career kills, good for the No. 10 spot in Ohio State history.Â
Salva-Torres hit a team high .500 for the year with 154 kills and led the Buckeyes in blocks with 94.
Ohio State finished the year with an overall record of 14-12 and tied for fourth in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association at 9-7.Â
