Ajagbe Leads Comeback in 1-All Draw vs. Vikings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (0-0-1) got a second half goal from freshman David Ajagbe in a 1-all draw against visiting Cleveland State (0-0-1) Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the 2024 season opener for both teams.
How It Happened
Cleveland State got on the board first in the 41' on a goal by Tom Mertz, his first career score. It also was the first shot of the match for the Vikings.
Ajagbe got the equalizer in the 67' when he stole the ball from Cleveland State keeper Stephen Yerian at the top of the box and then scored to make it 1-all.
Ohio State had the advantage in shots, 26-3, and shots on goal, 5-1. Ohio State also led 11-1 in corner kicks.
Veteran Thomas Gilej, Nathan Demian and David Wrona all earned starts in the opener after missing all of 2023 with injuries.
Ohio State named its captains earlier in the week. Seniors Deylen Vellios and Wrona earned the honors after a team vote.
The Big Ten announced Wednesday the players to watch for each team in the now 11-team Big Ten Conference for the 2024 season. Michael Adedokun, Siggy Magnusson and Luciano Pechota were selected by a vote of league coaches for the honors.
Freshmen Nick McHenry and Ajagbe made their Ohio State debuts in the match.
