COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The 2024 Ohio State men's soccer season gets under this week when the Cleveland State Vikings travel to Columbus for an 8 p.m. contest Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes then head to the road for match at Akron Sunday (7 p.m.).
Maisonneuve at OSUÂ
Brian Maisonneuve is in his seventh year as head coach of the Buckeyes. Maisonneuve came from Indiana University where he was associate head coach for the Hoosiers. The Buckeyes posted 11 victories, tied for second in the Big Ten and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022.Â
   As one of the top assistants in the country, Maisonneuve guided Indiana to the 2012 NCAA National Title, a NCAA runner-up finish in 2017, the 2010 Big Ten Regular-Season Title as well as the 2013 Big Ten Tournament Championship. Maisonneuve, a native of Warren, Michigan, is one of the top players in Indiana soccer history, winning the Hermann Trophy in 1994. He spent nine seasons with the Columbus Crew from 1996-2004 and was a member of the United States' 1998 World Cup team. Maisonneuve is assisted by Matt Foldesy, Travis Morris and Corey Brueggeman. Former Buckeye Devyn Etling serves as a program assistant.

- Three regular-season Big Ten Conference matches will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network this season. Ohio State and Penn State kick at 6 p.m. on BTN Sept. 17 in the Big Ten opener for both squads in State College. In the first meeting as league opponents, Ohio State's home match against Washington Oct. 7 (8 p.m.) and then the senior-day matchup in Columbus against Michigan State Oct. 29 (6 p.m.) will both be delivered to a national audience on BTN.
- The Vikings and Buckeyes have met 30 times in the series with Ohio State owning a 12-16-2 record. In Columbus, The Buckeyes are 9-7-1 overall. In the last meeting, the teams battled to a scoreless draw Sept. 21, 2022 in Columbus.
- In the series vs. Akron, Ohio State is 7-29-6 all-time. On the road, the Buckeyes are 1-14-3. In the last meeting, the match ended in a 3-all draw at Akron Sept. 13, 2022.Â
- The Big Ten Conference is made up of 11 teams sponsoring men's soccer with the addition of UCLA and Washington to the league starting this season. Oregon and USC also were added to the conference but neither sponsors men's soccer. The Buckeyes meet new league members UCLA on the road Oct. 11 after playing host to the Huskies Oct. 7.Â
- All-American Laurence Wootton, a four-time All-Big Ten selection, was drafted by the Chicago Fire in the 2024 MLS Draft with the 64th overall pick. He is currently on loan with Indy Eleven of the USL Championship.Â
- With Wootton, the 2022 and 2023 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, now in the professional ranks, the Buckeyes will look to several returning all-league honorees in 2024. Back are All-Big Ten  Second Teamers, Michael Adedokun, Siggy Magnusson and Luciano Pechota along with sophomore Andre Roberts, a member of the 2024 All-Big Ten Freshman Team.Â
- In addition to Wootton, Ohio State will be without graduates Peter Van Euwen (GK), Owen Sullivan (D), Reed Davis (F), Sean Ryan (D) and Connor DesRoches (D) from the 2023 roster.Â
- Several Buckeyes who missed the 2023 season with injury will be available in 2024. Defenders Nathan Demian and Thomas Gilej in addition to midfielder David Wrona return following injuries a season ago. Also back is defender Deylen Vellios, who is using a fifth-year of eligibility.Â
- Brian Maisonneuve and his coaching staff added several newcomers in 2024 who will vie for playing time as rookies. Ohio natives Nick McHenry (D) and Cole Evans (M) join Luke Laramore (GK, Glenview, Illinois), Nick Skubis (M, Tampa, Florida), London, England, native, Johnny Rush (M) and forward David Ajagbe, who joins the Buckeyes from Surrey, British Columbia.Â
- This will be Year 18 for the Wolstein Classic in Columbus. The event was first played in 2006 and since then, Ohio State is 17-8-8.
- In games played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium since it opened in 1999, Ohio State is 134-70-38.
