COLUMBUS, Ohio – Head baseball coach Justin Haire has announced the hiring of Elliott McCummings and Jordan Stampler. McCummings has been named Assistant Coach/Director of Recruiting and Jordan Stampler will serve as the Director of Player Personnel & Development.
McCummings joins the Buckeyes after three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina A&T. In addition to spearheading recruiting efforts, he primarily worked with the outfielders and assisted with the offense. Prior to North Carolina A&T, McCummings spent one season at Austin Peay, where he worked with the outfielders and hitters and was the Governors' camp director.
"We're extremely excited to welcome Elliott to our staff," Haire said. "The work that he's done at North Carolina A&T and at his other stops has shown his ability to have an elite work ethic, an excellent attention to detail and to recruit talent at a high level. We feel like he will be another dynamic piece to our staff that will allow us not only to develop players at a high level, but to recruit nationwide at a high level."
McCummings spent the 2019 season as a volunteer assistant at Radford. The Highlanders went 30-7 that season and had a 19-8 Big South record. He began his coaching career in 2018 as an assistant at Louisberg College. McCummings began his collegiate playing career at Potomac State College, where he was an NJCAA Second Team Freshman All-American n 2013 and helped the Catamounts to a Region XX Championship. He finished his junior college career as Potomac's career hits leader with 143. McCummings finished out his career at Jacksonville State, where he played two seasons and was a career .320 hitter. He graduated from Jacksonville State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2017.
Stampler comes to Columbus after four seasons as the Director of Player Development at Campbell. Stampler helped guide nine All-Big South players and four All-Americans. During his first season in 2021, the Camels earned their first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to Campbell, Stampler spent five seasons at Pfeiffer; he was the head coach for his final three seasons there. He helped lead the team to a Conference Carolinas Championship in 2016 as an assistant coach. In 2018, during the Falcons' first season of Division III competition, Stampler led the program to a 31-7 record to win the conference regular season title. The next year, the Falcons were ECAC Division III champions.
"We are over the moon to bring Jordan with us from Campbell," Haire said. "Having him on our staff there for the last four years will allow us to have a seamless transition with him and his effect on both our development of players and our program as a whole. His experience as a head coach and assistant coach at multiple levels gives him a unique perspective that will help drive our program forward."
Stampler began his coaching career at Adrian College in 2014 as the team's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, helping the team to an MIAA regular season and tournament title and an NCAA Widwest Regional. He spent the 2015 at his alma mater, USC Upstate, as a volunteer coach for half the year before being promoted into an assistant coaching role. Stampler played two seasons at USC Upsate and still holds multiple entries in the Spartans' record book. He graduated in 2013 with his bachelor's degree and received a master's degree from Pfeiffer in 2017. Stampler and his wife, Hannah, have two children.
