
Buckeyes Down Rutgers, 11-5, to Win Series

Game Recap
- Trey Lipsey walked to lead off the game. Lipsey was out on the next play at Henry Kaczmar reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on a throwing error from the Rutgers catcher. With two outs on the board, Tyler Pettorini singled up the middle to score Kaczmar and give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.
- The Scarlet Knights tied the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the second after an RBI single.
- With one out in the top of the third, Lipsey and Kaczmar hit back-to-back singles. Lipsey advanced to third on Kaczmar's single, putting runners on the corner. Kaczmar was caught stealing on the next play, but Lipsey had time to score to put Ohio State back in the lead, 2-1.
- In the bottom of the third, a solo home run from the Scarlet Knights tied the score, 2-2.
- A two-RBI double from Rutgers in the bottom of the fourth put the Scarlet Knights in the lead, 4-2.
- Josh Stevenson drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth, followed by a single through the left side from Nick Giamarusti. A sacrifice bunt from Lipsey moved both runners up 90 feet. Giamarusti scored on a passed ball, cutting the Rutgers lead to one, 4-3. Matthew Graveline was walked and he stole second. Pettorini stepped up to the dish next and he singled through the right side, sending both runners home to put the Buckeyes back in the lead, 5-4.
- Both teams went scoreless until the top of the eighth, when the Buckeyes added on some insurance runs. Mershon walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Okuley was hit by a pitch and Hunter Rosson was walked to load the bases. Stevenson then drew a walk to send Mershon home. Pinch hitter Isaac Cadena reached on an error and Okuley scored. A sacrifice fly from Lipsey plated Rosson. With two outs, Graveline was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Pettorini then drew a walk to send Stevenson home and extend the Ohio State lead, 9-4.
- Okuley doubled to left field to lead off the top of the ninth for the Buckeyes and a sacrifice bunt from Rosson moved him to third base. Stevenson was next at the plate and he went yard, hitting one opposite field to drive in two runs and give Ohio State a seven-run lead, 11-4.
- The Scarlet Knights got one across in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single, but they could not overcome the Buckeye lead as Ohio State won, 11-5.
- Kaczmar and Pettorini led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
- Pettorini had a team-high four RBIs and Stevenson batted in three runs.
- Stevenson led the team in runs scored with three.
- Starter Colin Purcell allowed four runs on seven hits in a 3.1-inning no-decision.
- Chase Herrell (3-1) earned the win. He gave up just one hit in 3.2 scoreless innings.
- The Buckeyes play their final game against the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m.
