COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a back-and-forth battle on the road, the Ohio State men's lacrosse team dropped a one-goal game to No. 9 Maryland Saturday afternoon at SECU Stadium in College Park, Md. The Buckeyes (6-6, 1-2 B1G) fell, 8-7, to the Terrapins (7-3, 2-1 B1G).
The Short Story
Both teams scored twice in the first quarter and once in the second to head to the locker room tied at three at the half. A three-goal third quarter from Maryland gave Maryland its ultimate lead. Despite a three-goal run for Ohio State in the third, the Terrapins came away with the one-goal advantage.
Ohio State's defense held Maryland to its lowest scoring outing of the year, including a season-low three goals in the first half. Marcus Hudgins caused a team-high three turnovers and led the team with five ground balls in the game. In goal, Caleb Fyock made 11 saves on the day.
On attack, Jack McKenna scored his third hat trick of the season and second in as many games against the Terrapins. He added an assist for four points on the day to lead the Buckeyes. Blake Eiland also recorded a multi-goal game, his third of the year, with two goals on Saturday.

How it Happened
- After Maryland scored 4:20 into the game, Ari Allen scored the Buckeyes' first goal of the game and his fifth goal of the season at 6:43 to put the score at 1-1. He beat his defender behind the goal and sent the ball just over the goal line to knot the game at one-all.
- Three minutes later, Ohio State took its first lead of the day off a Jack McKenna goal. He won a one-on-one and found the back of the net at 3:45.
- Maryland tied the game for the second time at 2:39 to put the game at 2-2 after the first quarter.
- The Buckeyes capitalized on their first extra man opportunity of the day, with Ed Shean scoring at 12:20 in the second quarter to take back the lead. The goal was his first man-up goal of the season.
- Ohio State held Maryland without a goal for 13:47 following its second goal. The Terrapins scored the final goal of the half with 3:52 to play to tie the game at 3-3 at the half.
- It was Maryland with the first scoring run of the day, recording three straight goals in the first 9:50 of the second half for a four-goal run to take a 6-3 lead.
- McKenna ended the Terrapins' streak with 30 seconds to play in the third quarter to spur a scoring run for the Buckeyes.
