COLUMBUS, Ohio – Postseason play has arrived, and Ohio State will feel right at home at the Big Ten Championships this weekend. This year’s event is being hosted at the Scioto Country Club just down the road in Columbus. The Buckeyes will tee off Friday morning at 9 a.m. in the opening round. The final round is set for Sunday.
Admission and parking are free all weekend.
- Ohio State’s lineup will consist of Neal Shipley, Jackson Chandler, Maxwell Moldovan, Adam Wallin and Jack Vojtko. Tyler Sabo will be the alternate this week.
- The Buckeyes have won the Big Ten Tournament 23 times, but not since 2004. Individually, 18 Buckeyes have claimed medalist honors. Howard Baker (1945, 1947) and John Cook (1978, 1979) each won the title twice.
- This is the 10th time the Big Ten Championship has been in Columbus and the second that has been hosted by Scioto CC. The first time came in 1928. The other eight instances were all at the OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
- Moldovan, a likely three-time All-Big Ten honoree, has played in three Big Ten Championships and has finished in the Top 15 in all three events. Last year was his best year when he tied for fifth. He had pulled into a share of the lead on the back nine of the final round before rain washed-out the remainder of the tournament.
- Shipley shot rounds of 75-74 at last year’s Big Ten Championship to finish in a tie for 30th. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native is averaging a career-best 70.93 this season.
- Wallin is also playing in his fourth and final Big Ten Championship. His best finish came as a freshman in 2021 when he carded a final round 2-under 70 to finish in a tie for 16th. He too is enjoying a career year, averaging 70.30 with a team-best 19 rounds at par or better.
- Chandler is coming off a great event at the Kepler Intercollegiate last weekend. He finished runner-up at 1-over par, just one shot off the lead. It was the second runner-up finish of his career as he also finished runner-up at the 2023 Kepler Intercollegiate. He is playing in his third Big Ten Championship.
- Vojtko, a freshman in his first semester, will be playing in his seventh of the spring. He finished under-par in his collegiate debut and then claimed his first collegiate win at The Johnnie-O Individual in March. He started last week’s Kepler Intercollegiate with a couple of tough rounds but finished with a solid round of even-par 71 on Sunday.
