Neal Shipley led the way with a Top 5 finish individually
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State capped the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday with a round of 302 to finish fifth in the 54-hole event at the Scioto Country Club.
Individually, graduate Neal Shipley posted a final round 74 and finished fifth at 7-over par. Shipley led three Buckeyes that finished in the Top 20.
Scioto played tough all weekend. One of the tougher layouts in central Ohio, the breezy conditions on Saturday and Sunday made scoring difficult. The average score in the second round was 76.79 and the average score on Sunday was 76.60.
Shipley birdied holes five and seven to pull within a couple shots of the lead but wasn’t able to claw all the way back on the closing nine. His round of 1-under 69 on Saturday was one of the best rounds of the tournament. The Top 5 finish was his best finish in his two Big Ten Championships.
Senior Jackson Chandler played a very solid final round, posting a team-best 3-over 73 to finish in a tie for 11th at 11-over par. He was 3-over through five holes on Sunday but played even-par the rest of the way in.
Adam Wallin carded a final round 78 and finished in a tie for 19th at 15-over. Fellow senior Maxwell Moldovan finished his final Big Ten Championship with a round of 78 and was tied for 33rd at 18-over. Jack Vojtko capped his first Big Ten Championship by making birdie at the tough par-4 18th and finishing with a 77.
The Buckeyes will find out where they are headed for NCAA Regionals this coming Wednesday. The selection show is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on the Golf Channel.
