Ohio State Falls to Michigan in Series Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ohio State baseball team (18-16, 5-5 Big Ten) was shut-out by Michigan (19-20, 9-4 Big Ten), 4-0, in the teams' series opener on Friday night in Ann Arbor.

- Henry Kaczmar had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes with a bunt single in the top of the first. He swiped second to get in scoring position. Matthew Graveline was walked to put two runners on, but both were left on base.
- Starter Landon Beidelschies came out strong, catching two straight Wolverines looking in the bottom of the first to begin his outing.
- Joseph Mershon reached base on a Michigan throwing error to lead off the top of the second inning. With one out on the board, Ryan Miller drew a walk. A single from Josh Stevenson then loaded the bases for the Buckeyes. All three runners, however, were stranded.
- The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second frame after a sacrifice fly.
- Stevenson and Trey Lipsey both singled in the top of the fifth, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes as they remained scoreless.
- Graveline singled through the left side to lead off the sixth, but the Wolverines got three straight outs to keep Ohio State off the board.
- An RBI double and an RBI single for the Wolverines in the bottom of the sixth extended their lead over the Buckeyes, 3-0.
- In the top of the seventh, Isaac Cadena lined a double down the right field line to begin the inning. With two outs, Lipsey was walked to put two runners on, but both were stranded on base.
- An RBI single from the Wolverines in the bottom of the eighth gave them a 4-0 advantage over the Buckeyes and they won by that final score after retiring the Buckeyes in order in the top of the ninth.
- Stevenson led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Kaczmar and Mershon each had one stolen base.
- Beidelschies (4-6) took the loss on the mound. He stuck out four and gave up three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
- Zach Brown fanned three and allowed one run on two hits in a 2.0-inning relief appearance.
- The Buckeyes and Wolverines continue their series with a game at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 and a game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
